With traditional laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment, light energy is converted to heat, which is absorbed by the melanin in the hair. The heat moves down the hair shaft and destroys the follicle when it reaches 70° C.

VPL, or variable pulsed light, takes all this one step further by changing the number of pulses in each “shot” of light as well as the delay between pulses. These changes allow VPL to target different colors of hair on different skin types, both of which were limitations of previous techniques.

In plain English, this means that VPL is the ideal technique for removing all types of hair from all types of skin!

Like traditional laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) systems, VPL uses light to target hemoglobin, a substance found in red blood cells. The hemoglobin absorbs more of the light heat energy than the surrounding skin tissue. If it absorbs enough heat, and it does so fast enough, then the hemoglobin will turn into a solid form and be removed from the skin through natural exfoliation.

In practice, many laser and IPL systems don’t generate the required amount of heat to effectively remove facial and leg veins, but VPL does. Because of its varied lengths and delays of pulses, VPL is the ideal solution to vaporize facial and leg veins.
